The JVP claims the government must withdraw the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Bill if the ruling party is truly acting in the interest of the public.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Party Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the government is unaware of the hardships faced by the public due to the pandemic.
The MP said certain wrong decisions were taken by the government which were detrimental to public interest.
Therefore, Dissanayake claimed people were left with no option but to protest.
He reiterated that protests are being held to secure democratic rights.
The JVP leader noted if the government doesn’t withdraw the KDU bill students, teachers, principals and other activists will continue their struggle against the bill.
