COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Christians in Sri Lanka and world over will today observe Good Friday— the holiest day of their calendar year.
Good Friday is observed by Christians all over the world to commemorate the final hours of crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
It is a day of solemn remembrance, repentance, humility and a call for all Christians to seek a closer relationship with God. It falls on Friday before Easter, the day which is celebrated as the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion.
Good Friday is part of Holy Week.
Meanwhile, a special security programme will be in place from today in view of Easter.
The Police Media Division said security will be beefed up in an around churches throughout the Easter week, starting this morning.
Police also noted that if need arises, Special Task Force and Sri Lanka Army personnel will also be deployed.
