A stock of gold worth over Rs. 43 million seized by Sri Lanka Navy in Talaimannar has been confiscated by Sri Lanka Customs.
Navy personnel attached to the Thammanna Navy Base in Talaimannar had arrested three individuals with the gold consignment 1.2 nautical miles off the second sand dune in Talaimannar.
The stock of gold reportedly weighs approximately two kilograms.
During investigations carried out by Customs it was revealed that the consignment was planned to be smuggled to India.
Customs said the suspects who are residents of Puthukkudiyiruppu and Pesalai were fined Rs. 750,000 while the stock of gold had been confiscated.
