The Government Medical Officers Association has decided to suspend a proposed token strike over a number of issues including post-internship appointments.
Speaking to NewsRadio, member of the GMOA Dr. Prasad Ranaweera said the decision was reached after a discussion with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning.
Dr. Ranaweera said he hopes all issues will be resolved in the future.
He said the Prime Minister granted a meeting to discuss union action in order to intervene and provide a solution.
Dr. Ranaweera said they clearly presented the facts to Prime Minister Rajapaksa adding the Prime Minister acknowledged certain shortcomings and called for necessary steps to be taken to rectify the situation.
He said it was agreed at the discussion that arbitrary decisions and actions of the acting Deputy Director General Dr. G Wijesuriya were the reasons behind the trade union action.
Dr. Ranaweera said all matters were agreed on with a decision reached to resolve all issues.
