The Government Medical Officers Association has declared the last week of January a ‘black protest week’ in opposition to the government’s decision to revise taxes arbitrarily.
Media Spokesman of the GMOA Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said due to the government’s decision to increase taxes amidst the economic crisis in the country, professionals are greatly battered.
He said as a key measure to oppose the move, signatures of 20,000 doctors are being collected for a petition covering all hospitals in the island.
The signed petition will be handed over to the President on the 10th of January.
