Minister of Education GL Pieris has reiterated that a solution for the issues surrounding salary anomalies of teachers and principals can be made only through the next budget.
Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Pieris said the next budget will be tabled in three months and therefore staging protests across the country cannot be justified.
Minister Pieris said they are taking all measures to provide solutions to the issue surrounding salary anomalies and have also held discussions with several parties.
He said through the November Budget, a fair and a complete solution will be provided to the issue.
The Minister said teachers have announced that they are not prepared to wait for three months even if the government incurs loses or students are faced with hardships.
He said teachers are demanding immediate solutions while jeopardizing the education of four million students.
The Education Minister said the current protests are unreasonable and therefore called on the unions to suspend it.
He said the entire globe has been facing the coronavirus pandemic and Sri Lanka has also been dealing with an economic crisis during the past year.
Minister of Education GL Pieris therefore requested all factions to consider the ground situation and held overcome the crisis.
