The Government Medical Officers Association requests individuals who have not been fully vaccinated under the COVID-19 immunization programme to ensure they’re vaccinated promptly.

Central Committee member Dr. Naveen de Zoysa speaking to media said the number of coronavirus infections and deaths is once again on the rise.

Dr. de Zoysa said as a result it is essential that all those who are fully vaccinated be administered a booster shot in order to ensure normalcy in the country.

De. de Zoysa said COVID-infections increasing with the easing of travel restrictions is expected, however, he called for all eligible individuals to ensure they get vaccinated.

He added with schools reopening for all grades from Monday, the numbers could further increase.

However, Dr. de Zoysa said vaccinations help reduce complications and deaths that arise as a result of the coronavirus.

He also stated that citizens cannot be placed under lockdown continuously, claiming such a measure is not followed anywhere in the world.

He urged the public to set aside various myths and to get vaccinated and contribute to addressing negative impacts owing to COVID-19 that could dampen the country’s progress.
