President Ranil Wickremesinghe has revoked the Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued recently designating several areas as high security zones.
A new Gazette Notification was issued today (1) revoking the Gazette issued on the 23rd of September.
President Wickremesinghe, as the Minister of Defence, issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification on the 23rd declaring several locations in Colombo and the administrative capital Sri Jayewardenepura as high security zones.
Accordingly, the Parliament Complex and its surrounding areas, the Supreme Court Complex, the High Court Complex- Colombo, the Magistrate Court Complex- Colombo and the Attorney General’s Department, the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s House, the Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters and the Police Headquarters in Colombo were designated as high security zones.
The Ministry of Defence and the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters in Akuregoda, the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters in Slave Island, the Prime Minister’s Office (Flower Road), and Temple Trees (Kollupitiya), and Official Residencies of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the Commanders of Tri Forces were also designated as high security zones.
Accordingly, the President as the Minister of Defence issued a Gazette revoking the previous Gazette with effect from October 01, 2022 under Section 2 of the Official Secret Act, No. 32 of 1955, and published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2298/53 of September 23, 2022.
