COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A gazette notification has been issued by the Minister of Public Administration, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to amend the compulsory retirement age of public servants to 60 years with effect from 1st of January, 2023.
The gazette has been issued by Minister of Public Administration Dinesh Gunawardena under Section 51 of the Minutes on Pensions dated 05th February 1934 as amended by the Minutes on Pensions Act, No. 13 of 1948 (Amendment).
Accordingly, the compulsory retirement age of public sector employees will be 60 years from next year.
However, according to the gazette, this order is not applicable to civil officers whose age of compulsory retirement is fixed by the Constitution or any other law, unless otherwise decided by a competent authority.
The proposal to reduce the compulsory retirement age was proposed through the interim budget tabled by President Ranil Wickremesinghe earlier this year.
The proposal was ratified by Parliament.
