COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) has threatened to intensify its trade union action launched over the recent tax revision introduced by the government.
Although the strike staged by unions attached to several sectors on Wednesday ended at 8am yesterday, FUTA is continuing its trade union action.
Members of FUTA are continuing to step away from university academic activities and also refraining from engaging with the Department of Examinations to complete the GCE Advanced Level Examination paper marking.
FUTA President Prof. Shyama Banneheka said they will inform their concerns in writing to the Secretary to the President, in response to a letter sent to them.
Prof. Shyama Banneheka noted that they cannot agree to certain matters suggested in the letter.
He stressed that they are not prepared to wait for six months to win their demands.
Prof. Shyama Banneheka also said FUTA will demand a meeting immediately since they cannot wait until the 22nd of March as suggested in the letter.
