The United Joint Trade Union Alliance charges that the supply of fuel has been limited across the island.
Convener Ananda Palitha speaking to NewsRadio said many fuel stations are facing shortages at present.
He said three methods were introduced by the government to obtain fuel; tokens, the last digit of the number plate, and the QR code system.
Palitha said this is a mere rationing system enforced by the government, adding that fuel is provided according to the government’s requirement and not consumers.
He said vehicles visit two to three filling stations in order to obtain fuel due to the prevalent shortage.
He dismissed claims by the subject Minister and the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation that sufficient fuel is available.
He noted that fuel reserves are being controlled by curtailing people’s travel with limited fuel quotas.
