Trade unions claim the decision reached by the government to deploy Army personnel to filling stations proves that fuel queues will continue over the next few days.
Speaking to NewsRadio trade unionist Ananda Palitha said it also proves the government accepts that fuel queues will worsen in future and may lead to conflicts.
He noted the fuel crisis is still prevalent although claims were made that the fuel crisis will be resolved due to sufficient fuel stocks arriving with the loan obtained from India.
Ananda Palitha said the government failed to provide security at filling stations despite his warnings that queues may worsen if fuel is not distributed throughout the day, and it may lead to conflicts and loss of life.
He claimed four persons died in fuel queues with one individual murdered.
He stressed the government must prioritise the importation and distribution of fuel.
