The All-Island Canteen Owners’ Association predicts that the price of refrigerated and frozen goods such as yoghurt, ice cream, and meat items will increase owing to the hike in electricity tariffs by 75 percent.
Chairman Asela Sampath speaking to NewsRadio said restaurant owners will be severely inconvenienced by the increase in tariffs.
He said the electricity tariff hike was imposed after the Canteen Owners Association reduced the price of food items.
He said they reduced a cup of cup of plain tea to Rs.30 and lunch packets by 10 percent in order to attract customers to restaurants once again.
Sampath added they too are affected by the price hike including electricity bills at stores in addition to prices of refrigerated food items.
He noted that manufacturing companies will determine prices which will be imposed on the public.
