The Government Medical Officers’ Association says the need for a third dose of a COVID-vaccine for the country’s frontline health workers is on the rise.
Issuing a statement, the GMOA said fully vaccinated health workers have been infected with the coronavirus.
The statement said there is a high possibility of a severe Sri Lankan coronavirus variant emerging by the end of 2021, that could bypass immunity boosted through current vaccinations.
Therefore, the GMOA is of the view that the need for a third jab for health workers and the public must be decided by an expert panel.
