The Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court has granted approval to detain and question the wife of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, his father-in-law, and another person who brokered the employment of the 16-year-old girl as a domestic worker who died at the MPs residence, for 72 hours.
The trio was arrested by Police investigation teams over the death of the 16-year-old girl from burn injuries.
Meanwhile, Court also granted approval to detain and question the MP’s brother-in-law who was arrested over allegations of sexually abusing a 22-year-old domestic worker at the residence of MP Bathiudeen between 2015-2019.
Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said the four suspects will be produced in Court on Monday.
He noted the wife of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, his father-in-law and the broker will be charged with human trafficking charges while the MPs wife brother will be charged with sexually exploiting a minor.
The Borella Police, the Colombo South Crimes Investigation Division and the Colombo South Women and Child Bureau is conducting further investigations.
