Four arrested for stealing from Air Force storage

Four persons including an Air Force Sergeant and a ranked-officer attached to the Navy have been arrested, for robbing stocks of ammonia nitrate from a storage of the Sri Lanka Air Force, in Welisara.

Police said it was revealed that the stolen explosive material had been sold to quarries by the suspects.

The Disciplinary Director of the Air Force Headquarters had lodged a complaint stating ammonia nitrate stocks from a storage in Welisara was missing, and could have been stolen.

Accordingly, the Crimes Investigation Division of Kelaniya conducted an investigation in this regard, and had found 70.5kg of the stolen explosive material.

Police added a three-wheeler had also been seized, while further investigations are on-going.

The arrested individuals are due to be produced before Court.
