Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left for the United States.
He travelled to the US via Dubai accompanied by four family members including his wife, and son’s family.
Former President Rajapaksa left the island around 2:55 this morning.
Former President Rajapaksa returned to Sri Lanka on the 3rd of September after leaving the country following widespread protests.
Rajapaksa arrived in Sri Lanka from Bangkok via Singapore.
Former President Rajapaksa travelled to Singapore via the Maldives and later travelled to Thailand.
Rajapaksa travelled to Thailand on the 11th of August on a temporary stay.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa subsequently flew to Singapore on the 14th of July, via the Maldives.
Shortly after he arrived in Singapore, former President Rajapaksa, tendered his resignation as President of Sri Lanka.
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on his arrival in Singapore that the former President had been allowed entry on a private visit on a 14-day visit pass and had not asked for asylum.
The pass was later extended for another 14 days.
