Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa claims Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves are only sufficient for another month and a half, in comparison to imports.
Speaking during an event in Tissamaharama the Opposition Leader said a strong nation must have foreign reserves for seven to eight months.
He added the country will be severely affected if there is a fuel shortage, as factories will not be able to operate and people will be further burdened.
MP Premadasa noted prices of goods will increase further in future.
He claimed everyone has understood that the government is burdening the public and questioned if 6.9 million people cast their vote to stand in queues to obtain essential items.
On a separate note the Opposition Leader claimed government MPs are making contradicting statements regarding the fertiliser crisis.
He added the government has reversed several decisions made regarding the fertiliser crisis and even removed officials who enforced decisions.
