Parliamentarian and member of the Rataviru organisation Ven. Athuraliye Rathana thera says the economy has thus far been balanced by remittances of foreign workers.

Addressing a media briefing, the thera said despite politicians making various statements, a number of issues arise due to the non-receipt of funds by foreign workers.

MP Rathana thera said the serious nature of the service rendered by foreign expatriates is becoming evident, and how the country is being affected without their services.

The thera said despite what politicians say, it was foreign expatriates that balanced  the economy.

MP Rathana thera noted with the current situation the economy cannot be maintained, regardless of the number of skilled persons, if foreign expatriates didn’t send foreign currency.
