(NewsRadio); The group of five including two foreign nationals who were arrested for hacking ATM machines and stealing more than Rs.10 million in the Southern Province has been remanded after being produced before the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court.
Police said the group was remanded until the 23rd of January.
Two foreign nationals, an Inspector of Police and two others were arrested yesterday for hacking ATM machines and stealing more than Rs.10 million in the Southern Province.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the IP is attached to the Meegahathenna Police while the two foreign nationals have been identified as citizens of Bulgaria.
SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the two foreign nationals were apprehended while remaining at a luxury apartment complex in Wellawatte by officers attached to the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the CID.
Officers also seized laptops, walkie-talkies, mobile phones, sim cards and various items from the apartment complex in Colombo 06.
Police said an owner of a nightclub in Negombo is also involved in the incident.
The scam was perpetrated in at least three locations in the Southern Province.
