Five individuals including the son of State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera, who were arrested over an assault incident, have been released on Police bail.

The suspects are reported to have assaulted two school children in Kiribathgoda.

The Department of Motor Traffic said the vehicle the group was travelling in is registered under the Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The five suspects are reported to have arrived opposite a popular tuition class in Kiribathgoda, and assaulted two school boys inhumanely on the 26th of September.

Police arrested the five individuals at the location following a tip-off received via the Police emergency hotline.

Police said one of the two children had handed over a love letter to a girlfriend of a friend of the State Minister’s son, that led to them being assaulted.

The school boys who sustained injuries in the assault have been admitted to hospital.
