Five suspects have been arrested in relation to the incident in which stones were pelted at a group of Policemen engaged in a raid in Kalipulliwatta, Dematagoda.

Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said a drug racketeer was among the arrested group.

A Sub Inspector of Police attached to the Colombo Crimes Division and five other officers had arrived in the area to conduct a heroin raid.

During the raid a drug racketeer had been arrested with 10g of heroin, while his associates had attempted to free him by hurling stones at the Policemen.

Police said the officer in charge of the group had fired into the air and brought the situation under control.

The CCD arrested the drug racketeer and four others, while two Police officers were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining injuries in the incident.

Further investigations are led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
