COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Several prominent international stars including Pakistan’s Babar Azam, South Africa’s David Miller, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Australia’s Mathew Wade have signed to take part in the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League.
Speaking during a special media briefing in Colombo today, 2023 LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela said franchise owners have signed prominent local and international stars after being given a purse of nearly USD 1 million to purchase players ahead of the tournament and during the LPL auction.
He also revealed that the first-ever LPL auction is likely to be held on the 11th of June.
Accordingly, a purse of USD 500,000 will be given for the five franchises to sign four players –two local and two international- ahead of the LPL auction.
Samantha Dodanwela said the likes of Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mahesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana have been roped in by the five franchises.
The five-team tournament will be worked off from the 30th July to the 20th of August.
The year’s LPL will be played at two venues in Kandy and Colombo. Samantha Dodanwela said due to the availability of a narrow window, they decided to conduct the LPL with just five teams and the games will be worked off at the Pallekele and R Premadasa stadiums.
According to LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela, over 500 players have registered to take part in this year’s tournament and they will go under the hammer on the 11th of June.
