COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The first shipment of eggs imported from India is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka today.
The State Trading Corporation said a total of two million eggs are expected to arrive from India.
The government arrived at a decision to import eggs after the rapid increase in prices of eggs in the market and also due to the shortage of eggs.
The Ministry of Trade noted the imported eggs will not be sold in the open market but will be given to hoteliers and food manufacturers.
The first shipment of imported eggs was scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka in late February, however, it was delayed due to certification matters.
