COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Another individual linked to the human trafficking ring that was accused of selling Sri Lankan women as sex slaves in Middle Eastern countries has been arrested.
Police said the female who was also involved in the human trafficking ring, was apprehended after surrendering to the Criminal Investigation Department in Colombo.
The resident of Dambulla is a representative of a foreign employment agency.
Meanwhile, yesterday, the individual who is referred as the local agent of the man, who is accused of running a human trafficking ring, was remanded until the 1st of December.
The 45-year-old resident of Puwakpitiya, Avissawella who was arrested on Saturday (19) was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate by Police and was subsequently remanded.
The Police Media Division said he was arrested on Saturday (19) for his alleged involvement in the major racket where Sri Lankan women had been trafficked and used as sex slaves in Oman.
The individual was arrested based on complaints lodged by women who returned to the country from overseas recently.
The main suspect of the human trafficking ring through which Lankan women were illegally sent to Oman and the United Arab Emirates, was arrested and subsequently remanded until the 24th of November.
The main suspect engaged in human trafficking to Oman was arrested by the Immigration Office at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau said the suspect was arrested on Friday night (18) upon arriving in Sri Lanka from Dubai.
The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Wattala, is suspected to have engaged in human trafficking by running an office in Maradana.
