The Central Government has advised farmers to conserve the use urea fertiliser on a priority basis, in the event they require stocks for the next season.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Piyal Kumarage said farmers must be concerned over the use of Urea fertiliser during their activities.
He commented that authorities have failed to import the necessary chemical fertiliser required for cultivation.
Kumarage said farmers who require support from the government during torrential rain, to prevent pests have had to depend on themselves.
Also speaking at the media briefing, Chairman of the Agricultural Instructors Association AM Udayasiri said Local Agriculture had to suffer major losses due to the absence of a national policy framework for the industry.
He stressed that the process of forming agricultural policies for the country, has changed based on the needs and priorities of every new subject Minster.
Udayasiri recalled how the previous government destroyed Agriculture by promoting the use of organic fertiliser, and chemical fertiliser before that.
He pointed out that such arbitrary decision making only benefitted certain businessmen and politicians.
