The family of the Isis-inspired Sri Lankan who was shot dead by Police after stabbing seven people at an Auckland supermarket yesterday say they are in shock.
The Family Lawyer represented the man in relation to his immigration matters and has been in contact with his family, who is overseas, overnight.
He told New Zealand media that they were grieving for what had happened.
The lawyer said “the family was not aware of what the person in New Zealand was doing … They’re shocked and grieving,”.
He added more details about the family’s circumstances would be known following a High Court teleconference this afternoon.
The Auckland High Court hearing has been scheduled by Justice Wylie who earlier ruled the name suppression for the individual will expire tonight.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern yesterday said suppression laws prevented her from revealing much about the man, who was shot dead by Police.
Earlier yesterday the Premier said that a total seven people were wounded in an attack by an Islamist militant in an Auckland shopping mall and three are in critical condition.
