The Sri Lanka Police says reports of bomb scares in several parts of Colombo circulating on social media, are false.
Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to NewsRadio said the reports are from April 2019 and are being recirculated.
The Senior DIG said authorities have commenced a comprehensive investigation to identify those spreading the false news.
Police revealed the message claimed a threat of explosions in Mirihana, Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala, Wellawatta and Bambalapitiya.
Investigations by the Mount Lavinia Police revealed the bomb threat was completely false.
The Senior DIG requested the public to remain calm and refrain from panicking during this time.
