The Government Nursing Officers’ Association charges that failure to close the country in line with the increasing number of COVID-19 patients reported daily is the main reason for the COVID-19 outbreak at present.
Speaking during a media briefing Chairman of the Association Saman Rathnapriya said the number of COVID-19 patients and deaths reported in the country daily are inaccurate.
He claimed if 50,000 PCR tests are conducted 7,000-8,000 COVID-19 patients can be identified while over 10,000 cases will be identified if 100,000 tests are conducted.
Rathnapriya noted the virus has spread to all parts of the country adding the government does not have a solution to the prevailing issue.
He stated Melbourne was closed for a week after 22 COVID-19 patients infected with the Delta variant were identified from the city, and is now taking steps to determine the origin of the cases.
Rathnapriya said COVID-19 is contained in New Zealand and Australia due to such steps, while it is not contained in Sri Lanka as similar decisions have not been taken.
