The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka has urged authorities to expand the current vaccination program to administer vaccine doses to persons with various health complications and to individuals who are seeking to get a specific vaccine in order to travel out of the country.
Speaking to media, Chairman of the PHI Union Upul Rohana said vaccines are not administered at temporary centres to persons who have major health complications, adding such individuals are directed to the nearest main hospital.
The PHI Union Chairman said despite the move, such individuals return to the same centres since some hospitals do not have dedicated vaccination points.
Upul Rohana noted that all hospitals should be equipped with facilities to administer vaccine doses to persons with serious health complications.
He added those who are intending to travel out of the country but have not received the necessary paperwork thus far are also not able to get the vaccine of their choice.
The PHI Union Chairman said those who had received the first dose and returned to the country are also unable to get the second dose at present.
PHI Union Chairman Upul Rohana urged the authorities to reevaluate the current vaccination drive and address the shortcomings promptly.
