Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara says in order to protect employees, entrepreneurs must be protected and must not fall prey to rallies focused on disrupting the country’s rebuilding efforts.
The Minister said as the left-wing movement took up rights of labourers, they remained poor and were incapable of becoming modern-age workers.
Speaking in Parliament today (3), Minister Nanayakkara said Sri Lanka is amidst a crony capitalist economy, that makes the wealthy wealthier.
He noted that as a result, a new economic system that is based on a social security open economy system has been brought about through the 2023 Budget.
The Minister said the Budget is not a whitewashed budget, similar to those presented in the past adding it contains a transformation towards a system change.
Minister Nanayakkara also charged that many Members of Parliament do not want to accept the Budget.
He noted that the Budget is not a mere work arrangement and is instead associated with a social and economic transformation.
The Minister also claimed that all Ministers of Labour have only looked at labourers, with leftists standing up for workers from the inception.
He said in order to enrich workers, the employer and entrepreneurs must also be protected.
