Eight more plastic products to be banned

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says a Cabinet paper will be submitted to ban another eight products that are harmful to the environment.

Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera says a Cabinet paper will be submitted in the future to ban another eight products that are harmful to the environment.

Minister Amaraweera informed the matter while addressing the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Environment in Parliament.

The Minister stated that a ban will be imposed on polythene bags, plastic hopper holders, plastic dishes, plastic cups and plastic spoons.

Furthermore, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the law banning lunch sheets will be strictly enforced with effect from the 1st of September.

He also instructed officers to increase the number of raids with regard to the matter.
