COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Eggs producers have indicated that they are willing to reduce the prices of eggs below the current controlled price after the 1st of May.
Chairman of the All Island Egg Producers Association Sarath Rathnayake said they would not need any intervention from authorities to reduce prices from next month.
He said although the Consumer Affairs Authority has imposed a Maximum Retail Price on eggs at present, the rates are determined by the supply and demand.
He said the CAA has been targeting the egg producers for seven to eight months but has failed to practically reduce prices.
Sarath Rathnayake noted that during the festive period the demand is high and therefore it is natural that the prices of eggs go up.
He said they are confident that the prices of eggs will go below the current MRP after the 1st of May.
