Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva says the East Container Terminal of the Colombo Port and its operations will not be handed over to the private sector.
The Minister said the terminal will continue to operate under the purview of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
Minister de Silva made these statements during an observational tour of the Colombo Port today.
He noted the funds for the construction of the East Terminal were provided by the Ports Authority and stated cranes necessary for the Terminal have been purchased.
The Minister said the activities related to land filling have been issued to Chinese corporations through tenders.
The Minister affirmed the terminal will operate under the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and reiterated that no plans persist regarding the privatisation of the terminal.
