The National Election Commission has begun preliminary work to conduct the Local Government Election next year.

A spokesman of the Commission said preparations of polling centres, ensuring vehicle facilities and staff are currently being organised.

The Attorney General has informed the Election Commission that although certain concerns exist, the Local Government Election can be conducted.

Accordingly, the Commission decided to unanimously conduct the election.

The Election Commission said further discussions are underway pertaining to holding the election.

The Commission recently decided to obtain the advice of the Attorney General pertaining to announcing the Local Government Election due to the Local Government Delimitation Committee.

Accordingly, the Attorney General’s recommendation has been received by the Election Commission.

The Election Commission stated if the election is held based on the current situation, the Gazette in this regard must be issued before the 5th of January.

A meeting of the Election Commission is also scheduled to be held this week.
