The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has written to the Ceylon Electricity Board informing to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the 2022 Advanced Level Examination.
The PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake in his letter stated, referred to a request of the approval made by General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board from the PUCSL for power interruptions today (27) and to a letter dated the yesterday (26).
Ratnayake said the Commission has granted the approval for all requests made by the Transmission Licensee for the scheduled power interruptions made from the 18th of February 2022 to the 25th of January 2023 under the Condition 30(10) of Electricity Transmission and Bulk Supply License No.EL/T/09-002.
However, he said the PUCSL will not approve any scheduled power interruption from the 26th of January 2023 until the 17th of February, 2023 in order to safeguard the human rights of the 331,709 candidates sitting the A/Level Examination.
Accordingly, Ratnayake said the PUCSL directs the CEB to provide an uninterrupted power supply until the 17th of February and also informed to refrain from submission of requests of approval for the scheduled power interruptions until such time.
Further, he said the Transmission Licensee will be legally held responsible for violation of Condition 30(10) of Electricity Transmission and Bulk Supply License No.EL/T/09-002, if the power interruptions are imposed during the aforesaid period.
