COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A group of doctors, bankers and university lecturers have threatened to launch a series of trade union action if the government decides to go ahead with the proposed Pay As You Earn Tax (PAYE Tax) amendments.
Several trade unions have said if the government implements the new tax proposal, they will stage a series of protests from the very next day.
They claim, the proposed taxes are unfair on professionals who are working for the benefit of the country.
Meanwhile, health sector workers affiliated to the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sewaka Sangamaya have decided to go on sick leave on 9th of January, over the decision by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to increase interest rates for loans obtained by state employees.
