The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union urges all teachers’ unions not to hinder the process of declaring the Teacher-Principal service as a closed service.

Taking to social media, the Chief Secretary of the Union, Mahinda Jayasinghe said there was an urgent need for a closed Teacher-Principal service in order to resolve the salary anomalies expeditiously adding as a result a majority of trade unions submitted the proposal to the government.

Jayasinghe said however they are ready to resume their trade union struggle if it is thwarted again by protesting against the declaration of a closed service.

He said the Sabaragamuwa Province Education Director and Zonal Education Directors had enquired principals in the area as to whether they were in favour of a closed service.

The Chief Secretary said it was previously agreed that the Gazette Notification declaring the Teacher-Principal service as a closed service was to be issued on 20th of November which had not been issued thus far.

He said the government had claimed the reason for the delay as certain trade unions being against the decision.

Jayasinghe said the government claimed resolving salary anomalies would affect all other sectors of the government adding therefore in order to resolve the issue they called for the Teacher-Principal service to be declared as a closed service.
