The distribution of diesel stocks granted by the Chinese government for agricultural purposes has commenced (16).
Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development HMA Abeyratne said the Chinese government commenced distributing 6.8 million litres of diesel to farmers as relief for agricultural activities.
Accordingly, the fuel will first be distributed in the Kilinochchi District where harvesting has already commenced.
The Ministry of Agriculture said although the Chinese government provided fuel stocks for the maha season, since farming activities already ended in some districts, subject Minister Mahinda Amaraweera requested that steps be taken to provide fuel to farmers free of charge during harvesting.
The fuel stocks donated by the Chinese government will be distributed as 15 litres per hectare for farmers who cultivate between half an acre to two and a half acres.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will supply the fuel to farmers in all districts.
The fuel can be obtained by a CPC filling station through a voucher system implemented by the Department of Agricultural Development.
