The Ceylon Teachers Service Union says teachers and principals are left with no choice but to take forward their trade union struggle, since the government has not provided a solution to the issues surrounding salary anomalies.
Speaking to media, General Secretary of the CTSU Mahinda Jayasinhe said although the Ministerial subcommittee appointed to look into the matter had submitted its report yesterday, the Cabinet has not reached a decision.
He said the Cabinet has delayed announcing its decision by one more week. Mahinda Jayasinhe said they are unaware of the contents of the report compiled by the subcommittee and noted that teachers and principals have been kept in the dark.
He said the government and other stakeholders must be sensitive to the matter and provide a prompt solution.
The General Secretary of the CTSU said they will intensify the trade union action, since the government has failed to meet their demands.
He requested all members to continue their struggle despite the attempts made by some factions to sabotage their program.
Mahinda Jayasinhe reiterated that without a reasonable solution, they will not return to resume online teaching activities.
