COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A discussion will be held on Monday over the recruitment of retired employees of Sri Lanka Railways on contract basis.
Sri Lanka Railways said the discussion will be held with the Public Services Commission.
Railway unions claim due to mass retirements on the 31st of December, the Railway Department is facing difficulties to operate trains at full capacity.
A considerable number of trains were also cancelled in the past few days.
Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena said despite demands by trade union, he cannot take a decision on absorbing retired employees to the service without the approval of the Public Services Commission.
Accordingly, the Railway Department has decided to hold talks with the Public Services Commission on Monday to obtain permission to recruit retired employees to maintain services.
