Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena says they have identified certain discrepancies in the data released by the Epidemiology Unit pertaining to daily COVID-19 related deaths and cases.

Speaking to media yesterday, Dr. Asela Gunawardena said they have identified issues in numbers released related to the Gampaha district and Eastern and Uva Provinces.

Dr. Gunawardena noted that the discrepancy occurred since the Epidemiology Unit could not verify the data sent by Gampaha regional officers.

He said after verifying the data, coronavirus related information regarding the Gampaha district were released in the past few days.

Dr. Asela Gunawardena noted that officials from the Eastern and Uva Provinces had yesterday notified that the deaths and cases from their respective provinces have been underreported.

He said after validating all data, they will release the updated version of the reports.
