COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued a gazette extraordinary instructing all direct traders who are involved in selling or promoting phones and accessories, furniture, cleaning agents, shoes, kitchen utensils and accessories, bed sheets and mattresses and readymade garments and also those engaged in network marketing to register with the CAA.
According to the gazette issued by the Chairman of the CAA Shantha Niriella any direct trader who offers phones and accessories, solar lighting systems, furniture, cleaning agents, shoes, stationery, kitchen utensils and accessories, bed sheets and mattresses and readymade garments to sell, displays to sell, advertises, promotes to sell or undertakes orders must register as a trader with the Consumer Affairs Authority submitting the Business Name, Registration Number or the Company Registration Number, as the case may be, based on the residential address of such direct traders.
They are also required to issue to a customer a receipt or bill in printed or electronic form containing the price, type and other relevant information.
According to the gazette, for the protection of the consumer, any company or entity engaged in network marketing, which offers to sell, displays products to sell, advertises, promotes or undertakes orders should also register with the CAA.
Any company or entity engaged in network marketing must register with the the Consumer Affairs Authority by paying an annual fee of Rs. 25,000 and submitting the Business Name, Registration Number or the Company Registration Number, as the case may be, based on the residential address.
They are also required to issue a receipt or bill in printed or electronic form to the consumers.
Regulations issued through the gazette are effective 12th of April.
