Parliamentarian Diana Gamage has filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking an injunction order against the decision by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya to expel her from the party and attempts to remove her from her Parliamentary seat.
Leader of the SJB Sajith Premadasa, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the Secretary General of Parliament, the Chairman of the National Election Commission and seven others have been cited as respondents in the petition.
MP Diana Gamage, who was elected to Parliament from the SJB National List, is currently a member of the government.
She supported the government during the vote on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
However, the SJB Working Committee recently decided to expel MP Gamage from the party following which the MP filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the decision.
