Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says a decision on a method to reopen schools will be reached tomorrow.

The Minister said discussions are currently being held with experts over whether schools should reopen for students from preschool to Grade 6 or only for students of Grades 7 to 13.

Speaking to media in Kandy, Minister Rambukwella said steps have also been taken with the support of education specialists pertaining to the vaccination of children.

He said two views were exchanged resuming schools for students between 12 and 18 years of age or students between Grades 7 to 13.

The Minister said the experts claimed that preschool education is a key in the growth of children.

He claimed that a discussion in this regard will take place with professionals and all stakeholders tomorrow.

Minister Rambukwella also stated that according to research conducted by Johns Hopkins University, children above the age of 12 who are vaccinated, could face side effects.

The Minister said special attention will be directed to the matter.

He noted that the World Health Organisation decided against vaccinating children between the ages of 12 to 18 but four days ago altered the decision.

However the Minister said since the decision Johns Hopkins University announced that  children between the age of 12 to 15 could face side effects adding that the matter is under investigation.

The Health Minister said with such revelations parents of children in these age groups are also fearful of having their children vaccinated adding that view is then spread among parents across the world.

The Minister said the situation will be managed while a suitable decision will be taken considering adding that despite stringent decision making issues could still arise.
