COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The timeframe granted to submit proposals in writing and suggestions regarding the demarcation of wards of local government bodies has been extended.
The deadline has been extended to the 5th of December.
Chairman of the National Delimitation Committee on Demarcation of Wards for Local Authorities former Head of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said considering the requests made by various factions, the deadline has been extended.
Accordingly, political parties, civil society groups and the general public can submit their proposals and suggestions in relation to the demarcation of wards of local government bodies until the 5th of December.
A five-member National Delimitation Committee was named earlier this month with former Head of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya as its Chairman.
Additionally, the committee consists of Jayalath RV Dissanayake, WMMR Adikari, K Thavalingam and IA Hameed as member.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene in terms of powers vested in him under the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance appointed the five-member committee.
The term of the Delimitation Committee is scheduled to end on the 28th of February 2023.
