COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Dambulla Aura claimed a 4-wicket victory over Galle Gladiators in the final group game of the Lanka Premier League 2022 but failed to qualify for the next round of the tournament in Colombo yesterday.

Chasing a 130-run target, Dambulla crossed the line in 14.2 overs losing 6 wickets but it was not enough for them to progress.

The chase was anchored by man-of-the-match Matthew Forde who scored 52 off 32 deliveries before being run out.

Wicket-keeper Jordan Cox hit 34 from 21 balls. For Galle, Imad Wasim and Nuwan Thushara picked up two wickets apiece.

Galle Gladiators after opting to bat first could not get going as they lost wickets cheaply at regular intervals.

Only Nuwanidu Fernando provided respite for the Galle side scoring 63 not out in 42 balls.

Only two other batters reached double figures for Galle.

For Dambulla, Matthew Forde finished with impressive figures of 4/11.

Despite the loss, Galle will move on to the next round and will take on Colombo Stars in the Eliminator on Wednesday while Table toppers Kandy Falcons is scheduled to take on Defending Champions Jaffna Kings in the Qualifier 1 also on Wednesday at the same venue.

The winner of Qualifier 1 will progress to the final of the tournament while the winner of the Eliminator will play the Qualifier 2 with the team that loses Qualifier 1 for a place in the final. The final of the 2022 LPL will be worked off in Colombo on Friday.
