The Government says it will impose curfew or a lockdown only as a last resort.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing in Colombo today, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said they cannot rule out a lockdown altogether due to the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country and around the world.
Minister Rambukwella noted that they are hoping to contain the spread of the virus without imposing any lockdowns.
He said experts believe that the best way to contain the spread is to vaccinate a majority of the people.
Meanwhile, Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Ramesh Pathirana said the government is imposing certain restrictions in order to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Minister said all decisions are taken based on health requirement and the present administration is not attempting to restrict the freedoms of the people.
When asked about imposing curfew or lockdowns, Minister Ramesh Pathirana claimed that the government will listen to the health experts and take timely and appropriate decisions.
