The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says imposing quarantine curfew will not be fruitful, if the public continues to behave irresponsibly.

Chairman of the PHI Union Upul Rohana said only five days after the imposition of quarantine curfew, they have observed a majority of the public has been roaming freely in public citing various reasons.

He said the public has been behaving irresponsibly during the past few days.

Upul Rohana stressed that not only the public and the officials who allowed persons to violate the curfew, but the entire country will suffer if the current trend continues.

He said without adhering to curfew regulations, no one will be able to contain the spread of the virus.

The PHI Union Chairman said the current behaviour of the people and officials will lead to a dangerous situation in the country.

Upul Rohana noted that the country is burdened financially due to lockdowns adding if the curfew is not enforced properly, Sri Lanka will suffer both on economic and health fronts.

He said therefore everyone must be mindful and behave responsibly to end the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Upul Rohana commenting on his opinion on extending the current curfew said if regulations are not enforced properly it is futile to continue the lockdown.

He said the daily coronavirus numbers have not reduced thus far but noted the infection rate is expected to decrease in the next few days.

The PHI Union said they are in favour of continuously imposing strict restrictions in order to contain the spread of the virus.

He said however regulations must be enforced strictly by authorities.
