Unions claim the omicron variant of the novel coronavirus is continuing to trickle into the country through the airport.

The Academy of Health Professional says the current omicron wave emerged since authorities allowed persons to enter the country without a proper testing protocol.

President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh said instead of imposing restrictions, authorities have taken a lax approach towards arrivals.

Kumudesh noted that due to the current Omicron wave, the healthcare staff and hospitals have been stretched. He said it will lead to an increase in fatalities.

Ravi Kumudesh stressed that the Ministry of Health and the government should be held responsible if the country was forced to shut once again.

He said if authorities had taken necessary steps, then the number of cases would have not increased.

Kumudesh claimed that since the government attempted to paint a picture that the COVID-19 crisis is over, officials also stopped taking preventative measures.

He said persons are continuing to arrive in the country while carrying new variants.

Ravi Kumudesh said authorities cannot take a casual approach stating the number of casualties is considerably low.

He said any loss of life is unnecessary and unfortunate and therefore the COVID-19 crisis should not be taken lightly.

Ravi Kumudesh said they vehemently oppose the current approach of the government towards handling the coronavirus crisis.
